Does the expansion still fit
when demand changes?
Synthetic example. Not a customer result.
Not supported. Higher existing-demand bounds leave a −190 electrical kW margin after the protected grid commitment during October 26, 2026, 12:00–13:00 UTC.
Why it matters: the original proposal had electrical support. The changed records no longer support that same expansion profile over the full six-hour period. A connection rating alone does not settle the decision.
Next action: obtain the basis for the higher demand bounds and have the responsible engineer confirm the protected commitment and applicable limits before relying on the expansion assumption.
Example site: Holding A. Assessed period: October 26, 2026, 09:00–15:00 UTC. One import-only grid service and one internal electrical section; no embedded generation or storage. Thermal and combined findings: Not evaluated.
The proposal stays the same. The demand evidence changes.
Synthetic example. Not a customer result.
The original electrical assessment is Supported under the stated synthetic assumptions, with a minimum margin of +580 electrical kW. The reassessment is Not supported. Only three existing-demand bounds change; the added-load profile, ratings and protected commitments stay the same.
Grid service: 6,000 electrical kW, with 400 electrical kW protected. Internal section: 6,700 electrical kW, with 150 electrical kW protected. These are separate boundaries and commitments, not amounts to subtract twice from one limit.
| Hour | Original demand | Changed demand | Added load | Original margin | Reassessed margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 09:00–10:00 | 3,100 | 3,100 | 900 | +1,600 | +1,600 |
| 10:00–11:00 | 3,450 | 3,450 | 900 | +1,250 | +1,250 |
| 11:00–12:00 | 3,800 | 4,380 | 1,000 | +800 | +220 |
| 12:00–13:00 | 4,020 | 4,790 | 1,000 | +580 | −190 |
| 13:00–14:00 | 3,700 | 4,560 | 1,000 | +900 | +40 |
| 14:00–15:00 | 3,250 | 3,250 | 900 | +1,450 | +1,450 |
Margins are after the grid commitment. At 12:00–13:00, 6,000 − 400 − 4,790 − 1,000 = −190 electrical kW. The physical grid rating is not exceeded, but the remaining allowance after protection is. One failed interval prevents support for the full supplied period; this does not establish safe shorter service.
Input basis and the records to confirm
These six one-hour values are assumed upper bounds applying throughout each interval, not energy-derived averages or instantaneous peak measurements. Existing demand includes baseline auxiliaries. Added load includes information technology (IT), 130 kW of cooling electricity and 50 kW of other auxiliaries. Additional IT is 720, 720, 820, 820, 820 and 720 electrical kW by hour.
The operator supplies the source and higher-resolution basis for each bound and the changed operating context. The responsible engineer confirms the mapping, applicable ratings and complete, non-overlapping commitments. Differences between records do not establish their cause. The failure is located at the supplied interval start, not an inferred crossing between measurements.
A separately assessed alternative has positive electrical margin.
Synthetic example. Not a customer result.
Supported under the stated synthetic assumptions, with a minimum +160 electrical kW margin during 12:00–13:00 UTC.
Why it matters: it identifies a specific proposal worth reviewing, not a proven operating remedy or evidence that an operator accepts a lower load. It does not establish thermal support.
Next action: have the operator and responsible engineer review the alternative's operational acceptability and assumptions. Assess any required cooling decision separately.
Decision: would a different proposed load profile fit the changed demand records? The separately evaluated alternative uses 750, 750, 800, 650, 800 and 750 electrical kW across the same six hours. It changes only proposed IT load; the changed existing-demand records, 130 kW of added cooling electricity and 50 kW of other auxiliaries stay fixed.
Alternative margins by hour
| Hour UTC | Added load | Grid margin after protection |
|---|---|---|
| 09:00–10:00 | 750 | +1,750 |
| 10:00–11:00 | 750 | +1,400 |
| 11:00–12:00 | 800 | +420 |
| 12:00–13:00 | 650 | +160 |
| 13:00–14:00 | 800 | +240 |
| 14:00–15:00 | 750 | +1,600 |
At 12:00–13:00, 6,000 − 400 − 4,790 − 650 = +160 electrical kW. Thermal and combined findings: Not evaluated.
Three holdings. Three different next decisions.
Synthetic example. Not a customer result.
For an operator or PE-appointed portfolio-company director: which holding supports the same added electrical profile, and which constraint or missing record needs attention next?
This common comparison uses 900, 900, 1,000, 1,000, 1,000 and 900 electrical kW over October 26, 2026, 09:00–15:00 UTC. Each holding has one import-only service and one internal section, with different existing demand, limits and commitments. Results depend on the stated synthetic assumptions.
| Holding | Electrical finding | Limiting condition | Next action |
|---|---|---|---|
| A / original records | Supported | Grid service after protection: +580 electrical kW at 12:00–13:00 UTC. | Confirm the demand-bound basis and allocations. Examine cooling separately if the decision requires it. |
| B | Not supported | Internal section after protection: −100 electrical kW at 12:00–13:00; −150 at 13:00–14:00 UTC. | Confirm the internal section rating and allocation; agree any engineering alternative before reassessment. |
| C | Unknown | The protected grid-allocation record is missing; its remaining margin cannot be established. | Obtain the allocation owner, amount, completeness and non-overlap evidence, then confirm applicability. |
No combined MW total and no ranking in this example. Holding A's changed-record case, alternative and coupled extension are separate assessments, not replacements for its row here. Unknown does not mean zero physical capacity.
Why the service rating does not settle each holding's result
Holding B has a 6,500 kW service with 500 kW protected, but its internal section is limited to 4,200 kW with 200 kW protected. At 13:00–14:00 UTC, existing demand of 3,150 kW plus 1,000 kW added load exceeds the section's 4,000 kW remaining allowance by 150 electrical kW. Its minimum grid-service margin is still +1,850 electrical kW.
Holding C has a 5,500 kW service and a 6,000 kW section with 150 kW protected at the section. Positive physical margins do not establish how much grid service remains after commitments: that allocation is missing. It must not be assumed to be zero.
All values are assumed full-interval demand bounds. Applicable ratings and distinct commitments require responsible-engineer confirmation. These examples do not establish annual availability or total portfolio capacity.
Electrical support does not resolve a cooling shortfall.
Synthetic example. Not a customer result.
Combined finding: Not supported. The shared stage has a −220 thermal kW margin during October 26, 2026, 12:00–13:00 UTC. Electrical support remains positive.
Why it matters: the original electrical finding is not enough to support a power-and-cooling commitment. This extension uses the original demand records, not the higher-demand reassessment or lower-load alternative.
Next action: obtain the shared-stage rating at the actual conditions, shared-user allocations and reserve basis. Have the responsible engineer investigate the constraint before separately evaluating an alternative.
Decision: does the original Holding A proposal also fit the declared mixed air/liquid cooling path and shared heat-rejection stage?
| Domain | Basis | Margin | Finding |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electrical | 6,000 kW service − 400 kW protection − 5,020 kW demand | +580 electrical kW | Supported |
| Thermal | 4,800 kW shared rejection capacity − 5,020 kW heat demand | −220 thermal kW | Not supported |
| Combined | A known thermal failure remains despite electrical support. | Electrical and thermal margins are not added. | Not supported |
Thermal assumptions and full-window values
Assuming all IT electricity becomes heat inside this boundary, 70% of IT heat is captured by the liquid branch. Cooling electricity is already included in facility demand and is not counted twice. Cooling and other electrical heat are accounted for in the shared rejection demand. Air and liquid stages are not the limiting elements here.
| Hour UTC | Heat demand | Capacity | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| 09:00–10:00 | 4,000 | 6,200 | +2,200 |
| 10:00–11:00 | 4,350 | 6,000 | +1,650 |
| 11:00–12:00 | 4,800 | 5,900 | +1,100 |
| 12:00–13:00 | 5,020 | 4,800 | −220 |
| 13:00–14:00 | 4,700 | 5,100 | +400 |
| 14:00–15:00 | 4,150 | 6,100 | +1,950 |
The physical-capacity and protected-service checks identify the same 220 thermal kW shortfall, not two additive deficiencies. Capacities are supplied for each interval's conditions and apply to both baseline and proposal. Valid heat paths, flow/distribution and allocations are assumed. No transient response, redundancy standard, safe shorter duration or economical remedy is established.
Four findings, kept distinct.
- Supported
- The required evaluated checks support the supplied scenario within its stated conditions.
- Not supported
- A known constraint prevents support, even when other checks pass or evidence is missing.
- Unknown
- Required evidence prevents a conclusion, and no established failure determines the finding.
- Not evaluated
- The question or domain was not assessed.
Unknown does not mean zero physical capacity. Electrical, thermal and combined findings stay separate. These reviewed synthetic demonstrations do not establish customer validation, production deployment, engineering approval or permission to operate.
The downloads contain selected inputs and findings, not complete replay packages. A source hash identifies retained file bytes; it does not reproduce a calculation without those records.

First Site Evaluation
Start with a fit discussion by email. The paid assessment covers one site and one decision, with scope, quote, authorization and data handling agreed before records are shared.
Standard assessments: Written finding within five business days after scope is agreed and the required records are confirmed. Broader assessments, including coupled power-and-cooling work, follow the schedule agreed in the written quote.
Review the records checklist and who develops Headroom. No sensitive records are needed for the initial inquiry.
Read-only, export-based and analyst-assisted. Findings apply to a supplied proposal, defined period and supported method; they are not operating approval or guaranteed capacity. Public capacity examples are synthetic. Customer-site validation and qualified external engineering review remain outstanding. Method boundaries and verification
